Here you go past a mixture of pastures and ancient broadleaved
woodlands, sometimes wet, sometimes dry. This makes Häckeberga one
of the most valuable woodlands in Skåne. The species richness
amongst the plants and animals is very high and meetings with
fallow or red deer are not unusual.
In the large woodland you come across the River Höje å, like a
worm winding its way along. Stony and with the odd section of
rapids, where white throated dipper usually over winter.
At the ruin of Genarps Mill, you can find the largest spindle in
Skåne. A bush, which here, has grown into a tree.
Follow the sandy path through the nutrient poor Risen. Here there
are limestone rich hills with pasque flower, damp hollows with
orchids and unusual frogs in the pools.
From the dry to the complete opposite directly adjacent;
Skoggårdsängar. A wetland for the bird life and the surrounding
ancient trees with lichens, fungi and beetles.
The area has been dominated by the Häckeberga estate since the
middle ages. The large broadleaved woodlands, avenues and the many
farms and crofts are the result. Even the lavish church at Genarp
shows the significance. The church in itself is unique and is the
only one in Skåne from the 1500s.
Without even knowing it you suddenly walk along a wide and
historically interesting road. The old Bedevägen Road was renovated
at the end of the 1600s and became the main road between Lund and
Ystad, for both troops and travellers. Today you can see how the
road was divided up into 3 or 4 alternatives, when the main route
became too muddy and inaccessible.
A bit away from the Trail you can find the only waterfall in the
river and the ruins of Genarps Mill. Here the farmers had their
corn ground into flour.
